Port Vale lose more ground on leaders Walsall after Carlisle stalemate

Port Vale lost further ground at the top of the League Two table. After being held to a 0-0 draw by struggling Carlisle.

Vale have now failed to win any of their last five league matches and find themselves six points behind leaders Walsall, having played a game more, in second place.

A point for Carlisle sees them move off the bottom of the table ahead of Morecambe.

The Cumbrians had the ball in the net early on through Luke Armstrong. But it was rule out for a foul on Valiants goalkeeper Connor Ripley.

An early second-half goal from Walsall proved decisive as the Vale fell to defeat after a disappointing ninety minutes display.

It was a poor start to the second-half as Walsall took the lead after five minutes. Jamille Matt was allow to turn following a corner and although. His shot was parried by Ripley it crossed the line. It was almost two-nil six minutes later but Ripley redeemed himself with a solid save from Lowe.

Vale made changes but were without a second-half effort on goal as the clock ticked over to 79 minutes. Rekeem Harper’s volley towards goal went agonisingly wide as Vale pushed to break the deadlock, but it was not to be on a disappointing day for Darren Moore’s side.
