Manchester United defender Phil Jones has revealed he has been withdrawing from social media for years. By reasoning that it is a mental health hazard, the 29-year-old has been plagued by injuries during his time with the “Red Devils” that have forced him to take frequent breaks to heal.

The England defender’s last appearance for the club was in January 2020, before suffering an injury and a year-long absence.

Recently, he has returned to practice with the team. And having made several appearances in the U23s, including several warm-up games on the field to get fit,

Jones revealed that he has been away from social media for a long time. which he sees as a danger to the mental health of the players

“Well, I stepped out of social media a long time ago. But it was difficult. Because your friends and family all read it. But they are cheering you on. They want you to get the best,” he said on the club’s website.

“They don’t want to see their friends, husbands or fathers slaughtered in the media or newspapers. so it is difficult Because I have to go through a difficult time mentally and still have to read something like this

. You will only speak after the game. But no one cares anymore.”

“So it was difficult. But it was something I had to learn to deal with. And over time I’m still with United and have more experience. The older you get, the better you learn to deal with it.”

“I see it as a danger for young players to come into football now, not only at Manchester United but also around the world, it’s polluted. And they have to deal mentally as they do physically.”
